The River is so beautiful thought Eclipsemoon. Eclipsemoon swished his tail and the wind buffeted his face, surprised he lost balance and fell. Stupid wind he thought. He looked over the water and thought he saw cats but they were far away so he wasn't sure.He swished his tail again and sighed. He wished his sisters were here their names were Solarkit and Lunarkit, .but their dead he thought bitterly. He'd do anything for them to be alive with him. The wind hit him and he spoted a fish and caught it, he ate the fish in a few gulps and layed down.

Runningfern, the silent brother, glided forward on soft dark paws. No one could ever hear him comming forward, nor could the tom ahead of him scent him, he gathered. He sat and watched the tom intently, periodically glancing over at the bubbling stream.
A thought crossed his silent mind; What is he doing here?
Probably what I'm doing here, trying to be alone. A gust of wind tore at his fur. Bit windy today.
He sighed, padding towards the river bed.
" Hello." He meowed quietly.

Eclipsemoon jumped and turned when he heard a Hello he spotted the cat. " Hello. Why are you here." Eclpsemoon smiled swished his tail and moved over. "Are you hungry Runningfern if you are I'll catch you a fish."He sighed he really wished his sisters were here.The wind hit eclipses fur and he flicked his ears.

Runningfern sat impatiently.
" No, I think I can catch my own prey, thank you Eclipsemoon." He said darkly, putting the slightest bit of emphasis on 'thank you'. He picked up his forepaw and began grooming it to calm his rising temper. " Now, a better question to be asking, I beleive, is ' why are you here?' " Seeing the young toms unease he added.
" Come now Eclipsemoon, try not to look so nervous. I am a Riverclan warrior, not a badger. I won't eat you." He chuckled so softly it was more like a small cough.His voice still deep and very, very quiet he asked, " why are you here all alone? A strapping young tom like yourself should be at camp finding a mate or on some patrols."

Eclipsemoon growled "You don't tell me what to do Runner. I'll answer why i'm here when you do because i asked you first. Your not so kind to outsiders are you plus i'm no strapping young tom looking for a mate or patrol." Eclipsemoon stood up and started walking away closer to the lake when he got there he sat down and thought bitterly. He can't tell me what to do, besides he thought happily Runningfern should be looking for a mate because at this rate he won't be living long. He half hoped Runningfern would go to lake. he was buffeted by the wind and he swished his tail.

Runningfern narrowed his eyes. That was supposed to be a compliment, a strapping young tom.
He remembered what Silvertongue had told him, about his temper, and calmed himself.
" Eclipsemoon..." He padded over towards the young tom and sighed. " Isn't it beautiful?" He was talking about the lake. " I come here all the time to think. You know? About stuff, life... my sister..." He trailed off, pain clouding his soft eyes. " I just didn't think you'd be the kind of character to just sit and think. Guess I was wrong."
He saw a silvery fish cross his path, and he attempted to catch it, feeling very hungry. It swam away. " D*mn!" I should go see Sunmist...I haven't been myself lately. He made a reminder to himself, growling in frustration at the loss of prey.
" Oh, and my name is Runningfern. You can call me Fern if you musn't use my whole name, but never Runner...If you don't mind." He growled, as if being polite was hard for him. " Please, Eclipsemoon?"

"Alright Fern I came out here to think like about my mother, father, and sisters." He felt a tear go down his cheek and took his tail to clear it. They all died of blackcough i was the only one to survive, sometimes I wish I died with them. I guess I don't seem like someone to sit and think but I do and the lake is beautiful how it sparkles I love it. Did your sister die, how did she." He spotted a fish and caught it and gave it to Runningfern " Sorry I growled at you sometimes I have these moments where I get real angry and snap or growl at someone."

Runningfern growled in sympathy.
" Yes, I know how you feel." He nodded wisely. " My sister... she left the clan when we were apprentices. She died in battle after becoming a warrior. But trust me, Eclipsemoon," He purred softly, " The clan is all the better that you survived. Dont ever think that you should have died as well." He watched as the skillful hunter dipped a paw into the lake and snatched up a fish. His stomach growled with envy. But to his surprise, the young tom handed it to him. A wave of embarrassment flushed through his fur, but he nodded greatfully.
" Its quite alright, Eclipsemoon. You my friend are not the most owly cat I know.Well, you wonder why I have no apprentice?" He scoffed. " They request NOT having me. I have not a friend in the world, and all because I instill fear in the hearts of even twoleg monsters! Thank you for the fish, by the way." Fern began chomping at his meal, feeling himself become less and less ill.

"You're welcome. I'm sorry she died you must really miss her I know I miss my sisters they were great. If i was a kit I would request you." He sat up and showed Runningfern the moon you see those two scratches on the moon their from my sisters we would always playfight and they scarred me their. He sat down again and sighed "Their names were Solarkit and Lunarkit. What was your sisters name" He swished his tail as the wind buffeted his fur again.

Fern smiled slightly, washing scales off his fur as he listened to other tom.
" Why, thank you Eclipsemoon. I would be honored to have you as my apprentice." He paused, staring at the strange marking . " That is a very interesting marking, very nice." He nodded. "My sisters name was Stoopingwing." Taking his now moist paw, he swiped it over his ears. He wasn't usually this pleasant to cats, but he was begining to become slightly, maybe, a little bit fond of this other tom. But, of course, he wouldn't admit it.

'well that's a nice name. I wonder what my sisters names would be. What was your sister like, mine were sneaky, playfu, mischiveous, and sly. We always got in trouble but we had fun." They hunt with starclan he thought but one day i'll find them again and we'll be together. He liked being with Runningfern they were so alike in so many ways. He licked a paw and put it over his ear " Sometimes you aren't such a great hunter are you." He asked wonderingly.

Fern crouched down, trying to remember her sister accurately. " A lot like me...She was a grouch, she beleived our parents death was her fault, so that's why she left. She was much happier then." Fern sent a silent prayer for his sister, but at his collegues next question hit him, he bristled.
" You'd be wise to watch your tongue, Eclipsemoon." he warned. " Never question the abilities of a warrior, for he or she might just show you wrong." he growled, "For your information I am not feeling quite like myself," He added softly. " I must have a-an illness, maybe some bad prey." In actuality, he'd been having ghastly dreams, horrible dreams that had been keeping him awake all nights, haunting him. But he would rather blame it on prey.

"Okay I'm sorry.What's your favorite thing to do hunting or patroling. Mines hunting ever since I was a kit I have always hunted."He swished his tail I wasn't questioning I was asking. I didn't mean to get you riled up."He stared at Runningfern calmly."i've been asking you questions about your life are you going to ask any about mine."He flicked his tail and stared calmly.

Fern looked across the lake.
" Well it sounded like you were." He lay down, lapping up some of the cool water. He yawned and stretched, his back arching and his tail straight. This tom was talkative. Fern was slightly amused by how much he spoke, and about how many different topics.
" Lets see...I like patrolling, you can do alot of thinking while your walking (I'm a better fighter.) But I'm just as good at hunting," Fern added venemously, he then sat up straight. "Well I dont know what to ask you, really. How do you like it here, in Riverclan? Ever wanted to join another one?" This was an odd question, although the thought crossed his mind to join Shadowclan once or twice. He'd come close to, but Fern doubted he'd be able to just leave this all behind. He washed his other forepaw now, awaiting the response calmly.

"Well sometimes I've wanted to join Shadowclan I don't know why but I have. Yeah I love it in Riverclan the water and fish I've always have had a thing for fish ever since being a kit I loved it." He said happily. Ever since I was a kit I've always been a good hunter I took care of myself but one day I found a patrol and asked if they could help me."He said defeatedly. "I was alone at times it was fun but other times it was boring or Lonely." his whisker twitcheed and the wind blew into his face. He took his tail and splashed a little water at Fern to see what he would do. Eclipsemoon had to laugh though.
