Her bulky body pushed through the reeds, and through those reeds was a small grassy clearing. It was only big enough for three cats at most, but this was the clearing she liked the best. She looked to the sun and smiled slightly. Maybe soon she would find the love of her life, the light that guides her through hard times. Maybe.. Maybe soon.
Spottedfrost thought she heard a noise move through the grasses, but shrugged it off as nothing. It might be something horrible, but she wasn't going to worry this time.

Runningfern looked on through the reeds. He'd been patrolling, looking for that weird Shadowclanner Dreamchaser and his posse of apprentices. He needed some information on the twolegs, something that would give him some insight on their way of life. He couldn't believe they were all evil. He just couldn't. He had to believe those twolegs who'd trapped his sister (who he said had died in battle) hadn't harmed her. So, here he was. Unsuccessful in finding him, he decided to re-mark the borders.
That was when he saw her. She was beautiful, but he didn't care. The handsome tom no longer believed in love. So he just muttered a curt " Hello." As he padded out of hiding. " Just on a patrol."

Her head swung around quickly to look at the cat who spoke. She recognized him as Runningfern. But she swiftly looked down. In recognition of his presense, she nodded her head, but did not speak her greeting.
"I-I will move if you want me to, I can f-find another clearing.." She stuttered, her gentle voice very quiet. The soft wind blew her silky fur, ruffling in slightly. Giving it a rough lick, she then looked at Runningfern, only to look down again.

Runnigfern sighed. Poor thing, he thought. Ah well, might as well ask her to join him. He looked her over. She looked to him to be a bit younger than him, although he wasn't sure. " Don't bother." He forced a smiled, but it faded quickly. "I was in your way." He gave her a skeptical look. " You don't look like you're doing anything..." His voice rumbled as he trailed off. He sneezed. " Pardon me. Would you like to check the borders with me?" He hated doing patrolls alone. Besides, he'd scented some odd scents over in Windclan lately, and if he was going to get attacked, might as well have some backup.

He was right, she wasn't doing anything. But did she really want to go on patrol? That meant talking right? She mentally slapped herself. "Yea.. yea sure. That sounds.. great." Giving him an unsure smile, she then rose to her paws and walked over to him.
"What borders are.. we checking?" Wow. Had she been so alone that she forgot how to talk properly? She gave her chest a self-concious lick. Then she looked to the sun again.
Please. If you're gonna send my light send it soon..

Runningfern rose his snout to the air, sniffing it lightly. Without looking back at Spottedfrost, he said " Windclan." He didn't say why, but his voice had a slight edge to it, as if he were nervous. " Then maybe Shadowclan again." As he padded onward, his paces quick and fluid, he paused. A thought just occurred to him. " Maybe the other borders too. And, for that matter I'd like to check the twoleg den, to see if any of them are still there." His disposition as he lead the way was calm, but reserved. He spoke to Spottedfrost, only when she spoke to he himself, somehow thinking that their relationship would not continue beyond this point. There was no need to get into touchy feely emotions and past's and blah-blah-blah... No need. So he kept his head forward, ears perked and nose at the ready, hardly acknowledging Spottedfrost's existence.

The pace was easy for Spottedfrost to keep up with, and she trotted along. Silence was comfortable for her. She felt no real need to speak. A twig snapped underneath her foot, and she jumped back. The sudden noise scared her. Spottedfrost could almost feel the blood rushing to her head, and if cats could blush, she would be.
But she kept moving, pretending the incident never happened. It was challenging though, her fur was very thick, so the heat was hard on her. Puddles kept speeding by with her, and with each glance at the lake, she grew more hot.

He scented something...something...but what? Runningfern looked behind him at the she-cat warrior as the twig snapped underneath her paws, and shook his head. Clutz. But, he didn't say anything, in fear of hurting her feelings. Listen to yourself! Feelings! No cat has feelings. He growled under his breath. Whatever.
At the Windclan border he stopped to take a sniff. Smelled like Windclan. Maybe he was just remembering things... " Look there," He crouched down in the grasses a few fox lengths away from the border. A large figure was blundering through the grass. It looked like a cat, a big fluffy tail streaming behind it with huge ears and long legs. A twoleg pet, maybe. Or a raccoon. " Be careful. I don't know what it is," He held his breath as it stopped, sniffed the air, and then go back to it's buisness. " Let's get out of here." He hissed urgently under his breath. If that thing's seen us, he thought as he bounded off, it didn't show it. He'd be sure to let Maplestar know of this. Runningfern just remembered Spottedfrost, and checked to see if she was still there.

Spottedfrost nodded to Runningfern to keep going. She wanted to get one last look at it. It didn't scare her surprisingly, and she wanted to know more. But her instincts kicked in and she bolted away like a rabbit. When she spotted Runningfern, she slowed down more.
The silence was awkward now for her. It was almost as if she had to speak. "After we tell Maplestar about this wanna go to the lake with me? I like swimming in it best around this time." That was true, swimming in the lake was the best around this time. But she wasn't really planning on going with anyone tonight. Runningfern's company would be nice to have.

Runningfern could tell the silence was awkward...for her. Silence was his personal strong point. He wasn't too bothered by it, in any case. He quickened his pace, trying to get as far away from the border as possible. As they reached the twoleg den he slowed to a trot, then to a casual walk. Catching his breath, he pondered on whether to join her. " Sure." He said curtly. Why not? He has no one now that Silvertongue hates him. He sniffed around the nest breifly before concluding, " Scent...but stale. We'll come tomorrow to see if it freshens."

Her brilliant white teeth showed as she smiled. But that smile quickly turned into a frown. To be honest with herself, she was nervous. It had been a long time since she had spent time having fun with another cat. Her shy side came out again and she just kept walking.
Pretending he wasn't ever there was surprisingly easy. She didn't talk to him. And he didn't talk to her. But a voice in the back of her mind said, 'Talk to him! Make friends again!' She ignored them. Like always.

He smiled back, uncertainly. And as her smile faded so did his. He looked away sharply, clearing is throat. She was an odd one. Shy, yes, very shy... He began walking away, slowly now, his tail lifted slightly above the ground. His mood was slowly improving.
" Let's see now..." He paused, flexing his claws with nerves. Talk to her. Meh... " We could go to the Shadowclan border next...?" He bowed his head to watch his paws as he shuffled along.

Instead of talking like a normal cat, Spottedfrost did the Spottedfrost thing to do. She just nodded her head. The voice in her head mentally slapped her. Wrinkling her nose at the scent in front of her, she realized they were almost at the ShadowClan border.
Spottedfrost gave Runningfern a glance for the first time in a while. He looked slightly uncomfortable. Maybe she should tal- No. She wasn't going to talk and make friends again. It was just outside of her comfort zone.

He looked over to her expectantly, not getting a verbal answer. She just nodded to him. This suited him well. He didn't really like talkative cats when they first met. He smirked as her nose wrinkled at the Shadowclan scent border.
Runningfern just shifted his paws, uncertainly. There it was, Shadowclan territory. How could he ever face this clan again, after they lost his sister? He sniffed it cautiously. No one. He hissed impatiently. Fine. " Oh-righ', let's go. Swimming was it?"

Right. Time to go swimming. "Yea swimming. Forgot how to swim?" She teased lightly. Swimming in the lake just made her... happy. While other cats liked running and hunting, she loved swimming and diving underneath the water. Her steps were light and bouncy as she bounded along.
She looked back at Runningfern, her bright eyes shining. The frown she had previously worn had turned to a smile. Spottedfrost probably looked like a kit, standing there bouncing up and down. But she didn't care.
